All Catholic Medical Students in the US and Canada are encouraged to become members.
International medical students may join as associate members. Membership is free.
Our organization has over two hundred medical and dental student members across the US & Canada.
Benefits include a quarterly
newsletter and the gift of a free book
on medical ethics from a Catholic perspective.
As a member of the Catholic Medical Students' Association, you should be a practicing
Catholic who follows both the teachings of the Church as well as your conscience. It is
particularly important that you read the
Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
Whether practicing medicine in a Catholic or secular institution, it is necessary to
keep these precepts in mind. Finally, members of the Catholic Medical Students'
Association should work to exemplify the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy,
especially caring for the sick, the poor, and most vulnerable members of our community.
As a member, you are invited to attend the lectures and dinners hosted by Catholic Physicians' Guilds
in your area. Residents and medical students also assemble each year at the annual meeting of the
Catholic Medical Association. This year the 78th Annual Conference will be October 22-24, 2009 Springfield, Illinois.
Scholarships through the CMA are available.
