THE SEVEN SACRAMENTS

It is difficult to live up to the Commandments of God. To help us do so, Jesus has given us the Church and the sacraments, signs instituted by Christ to give grace.

    1. Baptism
    2. Reconciliation
    3. Holy Eucharist
    4. Confirmation
    5. Matrimony
    6. Holy Orders
    7. The Anointing of the Sick

Of the seven sacraments, Reconciliation, Holy Eucharist, Matrimony and the Anointing of the Sick may be received more than once.

There are two kinds of grace. Sanctifying grace makes us holy and pleasing to God. Actual grace helps us to do good and avoid evil.

Prayer before Confession

Come Holy Spirit into my soul. Enlighten my mind that I may know the sins I ought to confess, and grant me your grace to confess them fully, humbly and with contrite heart.

Help me to firmly resolve not to commit them again.

O Blessed Virgin, Mother of my Redeemer, mirror of innocence and sanctity, and refuge of penitent sinners, intercede for me through the Passion of Your Son, that I may obtain the grace to make a good confession.

All you blessed Angels and Saints of God, pray for me, a most miserable sinner, that I may repent from my evil ways, that my heart may henceforth be forever united with yours in eternal live.    Amen.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended You. I detest all my sins because of Your just punishment.

But most of all because they offend You , my God, Who are all good and deserving of all my love.

I firmly resolve, with the help of your grace to sin no more an d to avoid the near occasion of sin.    Amen.

Prayer after Confession

My dearest Jesus, I have told all my sins to the best of my ability, I have sincerely tried to make a good confession and I know that you have forgiven me. Thank you dear Jesus!

Your divine heart is full of love and mercy for poor sinners. I love You dear Jesus; You are so good to me.

My loving Savior, I shall try to keep from sin and to love You more each day.

Dearest Mother Mary, pray for me and help me to keep all of my promisees. Protect me and do not let me fall back in to sin.

Dear God, help me to lead a good life. Without Your grace I can do nothing.    Amen.

Prayer after Holy Communion

Dear Lord, help me to remove from my mind every thought or opinion which You would not sanction, every feeling from my heart which You would not approve.

Grant that I may spend the hours of the day gladly working with You according to Your will.

Help me just for today and be with me in it. In the long hours of work, that I may not weary or grow slack in serving You.

In conversations, that they may not be to me occasions of uncharitableness.

In the day's worries and disappointments , that I may be patient with my self and with those around me.

In moments of fatigue and illness, that I may be mindful of others than of myself.

In temptations, that I may be generous and loyal, so that when the day is over I may lay it at Your fee, with its successes which are all Yours, and its failures which are all my own, and fell that life is real and peaceful, and blessed when spent with You as the Guest of my sold.    Amen.

- OR -

I give You thanks O Holy Lord, Almighty Father, Eternal God, Who as vouchsafed no through any merits of mine, but out of the condescension of Your great mercy, to satisfy me a sinner, Your unworthy servant, with the precious Body and Blood of Your Son our Lord Jesus Christ.

I pray that this holy Communion be not to me a condemnation unto punishment, but a saving plea unto forgiveness.

May it be unto me the armour of faith and the shield of goodwill.

May it be the emptying our of my vices and the extinction of all concupiscence and lust, an increase in charity and patience, of humility and obedience, and of all virtues;

A strong defense against the snares of my enemies, visible and invisible; The perfect quieting of all my evil impulses both fleshly and spiritual; a firm cleaving unto You, the one true God; and a pledge of happy consummation.

And I pray You that You would vouchsafe to bring me a sinner to the ineffable banquet, where You with Your Son and Your Holy Spirit, are to Your saints true light, fullness of content, eternal joy, gladness without alloy, and perfect bless. Through the same Christ our Lord.    Amen.
